Our country is located in the western part of South America. From the North to the South, Chile is 2,610 miles long. In the West there ist the deep blue Pacific and in the East we find the imposing chain of mountains, the Andes. Chile is 2.066.626 km2 large (including the Chilenian Antarctic, the Easter Islands as well as the Juan-Fernandez Islands) and has 15.211.308 habitants
The country has many different climates and landscapes; the extreme North with the Atacama, the driest desert in the world located between the Andes and the sea. This zone has a lot of minerals and also important industrial fish farming. And for tourism Chile has many things to offer: nice beaches, hot springs, valleys and villages which are typical of the Andes, as well as the very old salpetre villages. From La Serena down to the South the vegetation and the landscape become increasingly rich.
La Serena by itself is a wonderful city with dreamful beaches, interesting touristic meeting points, and every year there are interesting events which attract many visitors and tourists.
The highest population density as well as the most industrial activities are located in the area between Santiago and Puerto Montt (about 620 miles). The South of Chile is called "grain-chamber" of the South. In this zone the tourist can see nice beaches, lakes and imposing vulcanoes, thundering wildwaters, waterfalls; a very attractive area, especially for tourists.
In the area of Puerto Montt in southern direction the landscape changes again: Hundreds of islands, canals, glaciers and wild thundering rivers in a nearly untouched vegetation, a fascinating and ideal area for people who love the adventure, but also for people who want to relax and to live in close contact with the nature or wish to find the way back to themselves
Last but not least you will find the extreme Austral, Pampa Patagonia to Fireland: This area, too, disposes of attractive places like Punta Arenas, Torre del Paine, Fuerte Bulnes and the Antarctic continent. Here it ends, the fascinating country which is full with adventures and sometimes wild and unknown.
